What changes in the Protergia Value Special Tariff as of 01/01/2025?

Each electricity supply product is labeled according to the following color codes:

  • Fixed Price Products for a Specific Period: Blue
  • Special Ministry Tariff: Green
  • Other Variable Pricing Products: Yellow
  • Dynamic Pricing Products: Orange

You can identify the product you are subscribed to by the corresponding color marking next to the payable amount on the first page of your bill. The color codes will also appear on all printed materials, on our website products, and in our promotional activities.

The Protergia Value Special Tariff is a Green Electricity Tariff offered by Protergia. The program adheres to the characteristics defined by Article 17 of Law 5066/2023 (Government Gazette A’ 188/14.11.2023) and the ministerial decision ΥΠΕΝ/ΔΗΕ/120637/2107 (Government Gazette B’ 6600/21.11.2023).

It has been commercially available since 01/01/2024 for both residential and professional connections (E1, E2, E3). Consumers automatically transitioned to this tariff from 01/01/2024 and remain subscribed until they take action to change their electricity program.

  • Residential Tariff: The fixed fee is set at €5/month, and the fluctuation mechanism's limits are set as Lower limit (LI) = €75/MWh and Upper limit (LU) = €85/MWh
  • Professional Tariffs (E1, E2, E3): Fluctuation mechanism limits are set as Lower limit (LI) = €75/MWh and Upper limit (LU) = €85/MWh.

If you wish to switch from the Protergia Value Special Tariff, you can choose another electricity program using one of the following methods:

The last announcement of monthly prices was for December 2023, and the Protergia Value Special Tariff has been in effect since 01/01/2024, in line with Article 17 of Law 5066/2023 and the ministerial decision ΥΠΕΝ/ΔΗΕ/120637/2107.

The Protergia Value Special Tariff is a variable pricing tariff where the price is announced on the 1st day of the consumption month. The price consists of:

  • A Base Supply Price, which can change after six months following 01/01/2025.
  • A Fluctuation Mechanism.

Additionally, Protergia announces discounts on the Base Supply Price to ensure competitive final rates throughout the year.

The Fluctuation Mechanism logic remains stable to ensure transparency. The coefficients of the mechanism will remain fixed for a minimum of three months, and customers will be informed one month in advance about any changes.

The Final Price will be announced on the 1st day of each consumption month on our website and the corresponding RAEEY (Energy Regulatory Authority) website. For example, on 01/01/2025, the price for January 2025 will be announced.

If your connection is already subscribed to the Protergia Value Special Tariff, you don’t need to take any action. From 01/01/2025, the new pricing features will be automatically applied.

The calculation introduces a Fluctuation Mechanism depending on the Electricity Market Clearing Price (TEA) of previous months.

  • Final Supply PriceM: Sum of the Base Supply Price & the Fluctuation Mechanism for month M, in €/MWh.
  • Base Supply Price: Fixed for at least six months.
  •  The fixed fee and discounts may change monthly with an announcement on our website, and this change will be reflected in the first bill issued thereafter.
  • TEAM-1: The price that includes the Electricity Market Clearing Price, as published on HEnEx here, for month M-1, expressed in €/MWh.
  • TEAM-2: The price that includes the Electricity Market Clearing Price, as published on HEnEx here, for month M-2, expressed in €/MWh.
  • Fluctuation Mechanism:

α: A coefficient freely chosen by the supplier, set at 1.18

β: α*(TEAM−1−TEAM−2). This is the product of the coefficient α\alphaα and the difference between TEAM-1 (price of the previous month) and TEAM-2 (price of the month before last).

  • LI and Lu: The safety zone limits, within which the fluctuation mechanism is not activated, and the Supply Charge is determined based on the Base Supply Price. Specifically, for the Protergia Value Special Tariff: Lower limit LI=75€/MWh and Upper limit LU=85€/MWh.

Yes, the Social Tariff discount will continue to apply for eligible customers.

Change of Supplier

The procedure for changing your electricity Supplier is very simple and does not involve any changes to the electricity meter installed in your home or business. All you have to do is sign a Supply Contract with Protergia, submitting the supporting documents required for each customer category.

No, there is no charge for changing Supplier.

The time needed is about one week from the day on which the Supply Contract is signed and depends on the procedures of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDHE).

No. Your business and your home will not be left without electricity – not for a moment. The Supplier change transaction is a purely commercial one. The supply of electricity is guaranteed by the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDHE).

Protergia can offer its services and supply electricity to all regions interconnected with the national power grid.

By clicking here you can learn everything about the Social Residential Tariff (CTO) and its categories.

The Supplier of Last Resort is obliged to supply electricity to customers who are not represented by a supplier for reasons for which their most recent supplier is to blame or as a result of events within the sphere of control of their most recent supplier. By Decision of the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE), the Supplier of Last Resort is determined to be the Supplier with the largest market share per category of customers (currently the PPC). Migration to the service of last resort takes place automatically as far as the customer is concerned.

The Universal Service Provider is obliged to supply electricity to small customers across the entire Greek territory, provided that one of the following apply: (a) The above candidate customers have failed to exercise their right to freely select a supplier; (b) The above candidate customers are unable to find a supplier in the liberalised market on their present based on their current commercial terms. Migration to the universal service takes place automatically as far as the customer is concerned.

Deposit

The PPC refunds the deposit by offsetting it against any other amounts due by the customer in the last (“Final”) bill issued by the PPC.

The amount of the deposit reflects the cost of electricity consumption for a period of 45 days and is held solely as security against any debts which customers may incur in the future in connection with their bills. The charge for the deposit will be included in the very first electricity bill that you will receive from Protergia.

Bill and Charges

Protergia electricity bills are issued on a monthly basis and belong to one of the following types: ESTIMATED -> Based on an estimated consumption level. ACTUAL -> Based on the consumption measured and certified by the Distribution Network Operator.. ACTUAL – CUSTOMER READING -> Based on the “Registration of Meter Readings” service.

If for any reason the consumption is measured at a time interval that is longer or shorter than four months, then the consumption charged is adjusted relative to the four-month period by applying the “billing period adjustment factor” (actual consumption days / 120 days).

Competitive charges comprise the following: The charge for the supply of power under the Day Ahead Scheduling mechanism, the charges of the Uplift Accounts (UA-2, UA-3), charges for losses in the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network, the charge based on the weighted average production cost of conventional thermal plants (Charged to the Special Account of article 143 of Law 4001/2011) and the costs of the Transitional Capacity Assurance Mechanism (MMDEI), as defined in the Electricity Transaction Code (Decision 56/2012 of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, published in Government Gazette issue 104/B/2012) and determined in accordance with the laws in force.

In addition to your electricity consumption, your bill will also include Regulated Charges and the corresponding taxes and duties under the laws in force.

Regulated charges are the same for all consumers, depending on the particular tariff category and irrespective of the electricity supplier selected. They comprise the charges levied on all consumers who use the electricity infrastructures (i.e. the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System and the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network, the charges for the provision of Services of General Interest and the Special Duty for the Reduction of Air Pollutant Emissions).

The following charges are levied on all consumers irrespective of the electricity supplier selected, are collected via the payment of electricity bills and are remitted to the State: (a) Excise Duty – EFK (Law 2960/01). The Excise Duty is charged only in ACTUAL bills, is calculated based on the level of electricity consumption and is subject to VAT. (b) Special Customs Rights Duty 5‰ – DETE (Law 2093/1992). DETE is charged in the ESTIMATED and ACTUAL bills and is calculated on the charge for the consumption of electricity augmented by the Excise Duty (EFK) charge. It is not subject to a VAT charge. (c) Municipal Duties – Municipal Taxes – Real Estate Duty (Law 25/1975, Law 2130/1993). Municipal Duties (DT), Municipal Taxes (DF) and the Real Estate Duty (TAP) are charged only in ACTUAL bills and are calculated based on the surface (in sq.m.) of the property which is supplied with power.

You can access the electronic version of your bill under the “myprotergia” area of our website. Your bill is available for viewing only after it has been issued (invoiced).

Under the Law 3345/2005 non-electrified and not in use property, in accordance with a solemn declaration of the owner or its legal representative, are exempted from paying municipal taxes for cleanliness and lighting upon submission to the relevant Municipality, along with the above declaration, of a certificate issued by local offices of HEDNO S.A. (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A.) concerning the interruption of electricity to the property. Here you will find the addresses and the telephone numbers of HEDNO S.A. service points

These are increases or decreases in Supply Charges in case of a marked change in the cost of electricity.
They may be triggered based on predetermined limits and variables provided for in Article 8.8 of the General Conditions of Contract. According to Article 8.8: Supply Charges are calculated as follows: If the sum of (I) the average System Marginal Price; (II) the average unit charges for the uplift accounts; and (III) the weighted average production cost of conventional power plants during the Consumption Period; plus the applicable rate for network losses on (I) through (III) (hereinafter the “Average Uplifted Sum”) is between €40 and €50/MWh, there is no increase or decrease in Supply Charges. If the Average Uplifted Sum during the consumption period is under the €40/MWh limit, supply charges are decreased by the difference between the €40/MWh and the Average Uplifted Sum. If the Average Uplifted Sum during the consumption period is over the €50/MWh limit, supply charges are increased by the difference between the Average Uplifted Sum and the €50/MWh limit. Such increases or decreases of the Supply Charges will appear as distinct charges or credits on the bills the Supplier sends to the Customer, when actual data are made available by the operator. Protergia may charge or credit customers depending on the amount at which the above sum closes. Uplifts pursuant to Article 8.8 are only included on settlement bills featuring electricity consumption.

The Social Residential Tarrif or the Vulnerable customer may settle his entire debt in installments and interest-free installments according to the following:

  • Each monthly installment shall not exceed 50% of the corresponding monthly Electricity Expenditure of the Vulnerable Customer.
  • The above option does not relieve the Customer of his responsibility for timely payment of his debts to the Supplier
  • In order for the settlement to take effect, the first dose must be paid within 3 days

*If the customer has breached the terms of two (2) settlements, the Supplier may refuse to enter into a new settlement and demand the payment of all overdue consumption bills.**From the Aggregate Bill Analysis > Electricity=Value of Electricity (A)+Adjustable Charges (B)+VAT

Net Metering questions

As instituted with Ministerial Decision ΑΠΕΗΛ/Α/Φ1/οικ.24461 (Government Gazette B/3583/2014), and in accordance with MD ΥΠΕΝ/ΔΑΠΕΕΚ/15084/382, (GovGaz B/759/2019), the development of photovoltaic systems by self-generators (“prosumers”) involves the installation of fixed photovoltaic systems to meet consumers’ own need for electricity and the application of an energy offset.

Energy offset, or net metering, means that the energy generated by a photovoltaic system is offset against the energy consumed at the premises of the self-generator, and it is calculated on a three-year basis. In net metering, it is not necessary for the energy generated to coincide with the energy consumed.

Those entitled to install such a system are natural persons and legal persons governed by public or private law who either own the space where the system is to be installed, or they have lawful access to it (e.g. through a lease) and have obtained written consent from the owner of the site.
Where the generation system is in a common-use or jointly owned part of a building, one or more systems may be installed, each of which corresponds to just one meter. Those entitled to install a net metering system in this case are the owners of the horizontal properties (flats) or those who have lawful use of them, once they have been granted use of the common-use or jointly owned space or section of the space by the other co-owners.

  1. There must an active and permanent power supply in the name of the self-generator which supplies the electrical installation.
  2. The photovoltaic system must correspond to one electricity meter, which is the meter for the installation it supplies.
  3. The system must be installed at the same or an adjacent site to the electrical installation that it corresponds to.
  4. The applicant must have lawful use of the site where the system is to be installed.
  5. The applicant must have paid all electricity bills issued by the relevant suppliers or have made arrangements to settle any outstanding debts.
  6. The self-generator’s supply must not be a beneficiary of the Environmental Residential Tariff (MD ΥΠΕΝ/ΥΠΡΓ/26359/4101 – GovGaz B/1936/30.5.2018).

The net metering agreement signed between the provider and the self-generator is for a 25-year term, starting from the date the connection with the photovoltaic system is activated.

In the event of a change in provider after the system’s activation, the net metering agreement with the previous provider is automatically terminated and a new net metering agreement is concluded between the self-generator and the new provider for the balance of the 25-year period.

Similarly, if the contracting customer of the electrical installation changes, a new net metering agreement is concluded for the remaining time period.

Metering of electricity generated by the energy system and the incoming and outgoing energy from and to the grid is undertaken at the same time by the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE), during the current metering cycle which applies to the self-generator’s electrical installation.

The provider applies net metering on the “actual” electricity bills, based on the consumption measured by DEDDIE, according to the metering cycle in effect. In the event that it is not possible to obtain a meter reading on the scheduled metering date, net metering will be applied when the next regular metering takes place.

Regulated charges are calculated as follows:

  1. The special duty for greenhouse gas emissions reduction (ETMEAR) is calculated based on the absorbed energy and the corresponding unit charge.
  2. The variable part of the infrastructure use charges and network use charges (energy charges) is calculated based on the absorbed energy and the corresponding unit charge.

Charges for Services of General Interest are calculated based on the total energy consumption and the corresponding unit charge. If tariffs from different time zones are involved, the total produced and guaranteed energy will be used to calculate the charges for general interest services corresponding only to the normal charge zone (day use charges).

It is a natural product found in underground deposits of the earth, whether it is found on its own or coexists with oil deposits. It is a ‘natural energy form’ that can be used without special treatment making perfect combustion in the appropriate devices.
Natural gas is the most environment and human friendly conventional fuel. It is a mixture of hydrocarbons in gaseous state, composed primarily of methane (more than 85%), which is the lightest hydrocarbon, very clean, free from impurities and sulphides

The natural gas may be used for:
•    Heating
•    Hot water supply
•    Cooking
•    Roasting
•    Co-generation (simultaneous production of heating/cooling & electricity)
•    Air conditioning
•    Number of professional uses (dry cleaning, tinsmithing shops, or goldsmithing centers etc.)
•    Production of products in the industry

The use of natural gas in all sectors of consumption offers countless benefits, while contributing to a cleaner environment and enhancing the quality of life of citizens.
•    Economy
The natural gas is the most cost-effective option and the best energy investment over time for household and professional use by offering competitive tariffs compared to the conventional forms of energy (oil, electricity, LPG, etc.).
•    Find out how much money you can save already from the first year.
•    Ease to use The natural gas is available whenever you need it, at any time, through the installed network. You do not need to order it or be ready to pick it up. The operation of natural gas devices is simple and provides comfort and convenience in your daily life (e.g. hot water supply any time)
•    Cleaning and space saving
Using natural gas does not require installation of a tank, as it is available through the distribution network, while being free from unpleasant odors and oil residues.
•    Accuracy of post-consumption measurement and billing
Consumption is measured based on the meter readings, like in the case of electricity and water, while always paying only what has been consumed and after it has been consumed.
•    Reduced maintenance costs for devices
The clean combustion of natural gas ensures reduced maintenance costs of devices and longer lifetime.
•    Environmentally friendly Natural gas is the cleanest and least polluting conventional fuel. Its combustion produces less carbon dioxide, therefore by replacing the other fuels, it contributes to mitigating the greenhouse effect. It does not contain sulfur compounds that pollute the environment and cause the acid rain phenomenon. Its combustion is clean and practically free from soot and suspended particles, limiting air pollution.
•    Safety
Natural gas is absolutely safe to use as:
-It is a perfectly natural product, lighter than air and should it be released into the atmosphere, it is removed immediately. It is odorless but a characteristic odor is added to detect a possible leak. Itis also not toxic, since it does not contain carbon monoxide.
-The natural gas network construction works are carried out according to modern and strict specifications
-The natural gas devices have a special mechanism which automatically shuts off if the flame goes out, and a gas detector can be installed in the room with an automatic shut-off.
