General Information about Natural Gas

Properties

• It’s a natural product.
• It’s lighter than air, and therefore in the event of leakage it is concentrated by eliminating the risk of explosion.
• It is odorless, but in case of leakage can be easily detected, by a special substance added with a characteristic odor.
• Natural gas is often praised as a clean energy alternative. It burns more cleanly than other fossil fuels, emitting lower levels of harmful emissions such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxides.
• It's not toxic.

• Baking
• Cogeneration (power station to generate electricity and useful heating and cooling at the same time)

• Numerous business uses (dry-cleaners, etc.)

Difference Between natural gas and propane gas?

Propane gas is heavier than air while natural gas is lighter, which means that in case of leakage, propane gas is concentrated low at the risk of explosion. Natural gas reaches the final consumer via the installed grid and is not stored in bottles, such as propane gas.

Can natural gas explode?

If only mixed with air in a very specific proportion AND if there is a spark at the same time.

What should I do if I smell gas?

• Avoid flames, do not smoke and do not use a lighter!
• Do not use elevator!
• Do not use electric switches, sockets or electric bells!
• Notify the tenants of the house, but do not use electric bells!
  If the smell of gas can be attributed to a leak in an underground outdoor pipeline (e.g. pipeline in the yard, supplying the inside of a building), the pipeline must be blocked using the shutoff valve.
